![]() If someone adds more columns, your application may work but it gets more data than needed, which creates more I/O overhead between the database and application. What if someone removes a column, your application would not be working properly, because it assumes that there are three columns returned and the logic to process those three columns would be broken. Suppose, a table has 3 columns, and you use the asterisk (*) to retrieve the data from all three columns. When you develop an application, you should control what SQLite returns to your application. You should use the asterisk (*) for the testing purpose only, not in the real application development. To avoid this, you can use the asterisk (*), which is the shorthand for all columns of the table as follows: SELECT * FROM tracks Code language: SQL (Structured Query Language) ( sql ) To get data from all columns, you specify the columns of the tracks table in the SELECT clause as follows: SELECTįor a table with many columns, the query would be so long that time-consuming to type. WPS does not even drastically change how slides look, like how a platform like Google Slides has its own fonts and sizes which result in the program drastically convert imported slides. ![]() However, since I consider using animations to be a complete distraction in a presentation, I clearly would not use them. For instance, the name of most of the animation transitions were different. I actually jumped back and forth between WPS Presentation and Microsoft PowerPoint 2016 to see differences, but most were usually cosmetic. WPS feels far too much like traditional Microsoft PowerPoint to ever consider replacing it. For instance, I could not upload the WPS version of this panel to Word Press. Unfortunately, the file format that WPS Presentation uses does not upload well to other places. WPS Office has a focus on language converse, so it has the added function of allowing for text conversion to both simplified and traditional Chinese. It does look more like Excel though, as it allows for multiple presentations at once, akin to Excel’s tables. WPS Presentation feels like free Microsoft Office, probably because it is. ![]() There just is not that much to say about LibreOffice Impress, besides calling it simply “Outdated and Ugly Microsoft PowerPoint”. None of this bodes well compared to other Microsoft PowerPoint alternatives. Because of the clear dated look of LibreOffice Impress, text from imported slides is altered to reflect older assets. This mean that creating images for this part was made more difficult. For starters, it is not possible to save panel slides as images, something possible in the other PowerPoint alternatives present in this post. Unfortunately, LibreOffice looks incredibly old, like if Microsoft PowerPoint never escaped 2006. LibreOffice Impress is part of LibreOffice’s open source alternative to Microsoft Office. At the end, I will select the platform I feel is the best competitor for traditional Microsoft PowerPoint. All three are also what is described as “linear” presentations that normally flow in order, unlike Prezi, which is covered here, that is deemed “non-linear” because it allows for jumping around between slides. This means that these PowerPoint alternatives had to compete with cosmetic presentation and design over animations, mostly because I do not believe animations should be used at all in a presentation. I chose this specific presentation because it reflects design choices I value, like large images for people viewing in large rooms, but is heavier with onscreen text than what I usually use for presentations. To test the programs, I am using some excerpts from a music composer lecture I have given with my friends at conventions.
